Week 7

This week I did a lot of thinking about key words. I've tried to run ad campaigns before, but never with any luck. I think what was really missing was the right key words. I also don't think I targeted the right age group or the right demographic. This has taught me how important it is to niche down. So often I've found myself trying to be everything for everyone. This is neither effective nor possible. It's important to find the people that are looking for your product and focus on them and nobody else. You will do much more with your business and your life if you do what you're good at and ignore all the rest of it.  I think this is a good lesson for life and business!

Week 6

This week, I learned that I can understand taxes and legal structures, but it's the least interesting part of business for me. If I really do end up owning my own business, I am definitely going to have to outsource that, because I was low-key dying just to understand the basics. I definitely know the importance of understanding the basics though -- it's important to have all the information you can so that you can make better decisions. Like President Nelson said, good inspiration is based on good information. It also makes it harder for people to take advantage of you, and easier to make sure you're actually living by your own values and being honest in your dealings with others. That being said, it was not my favorite week of reading material. I am exceptionally glad I never decided to study law or business law, or TAX LAW. Because wow. However, it was really fun to get my website fully up and running. There have been a few minor snafus along the way (the response time f...

Week 5

It was really fun actually getting my website up and running! I'm definitely glad I did some experimenting with dropshipping before -- I think it's made my experience much smoother and easier to navigate, since I've already done it. After I set up my website, one of the first things Shopify suggests is to connect your site with dropshipping suppliers. I chose to connect my site with Trendsi, and might explore more apparel dropshipping sites to connect as well. I also made headway in adding product to my site, so that I can get it up and running as soon as possible. I also organized my site into collections, and this allows me to add products directly into specific collections. I think it's so cool that Shopify runs its sites in such a user-friendly way. It really cost me little to no mental effort to do these things I probably would've had to learn how to code to do otherwise. It really is easier than ever to start a business in this day and age, and I'm excited...

Week 4

This week, I really enjoyed learning about the different site builders and hosts that exist. I enjoyed walking through the different sites and determining which would be best to build the business that I want to do. It's pretty neat how different sites work better for different types of businesses.  I also thought the spreadsheet was so cool -- it was awesome to see how different things that I explored would actually perform, or were forecasted to perform, in a real market. I was surprised from the results -- apparently, jewelry is a big business, especially vintage jewelry and rings. I really enjoy using the keyword planner to find different types of businesses that would be most profitable to run or most successful to try to open over the next couple weeks. I'm excited to continue bringing my website to life. I decided to use Shopify to build it because I have experience with it. It's super easy to use and it's so easy to connect it to dropshipping suppliers. It's...

Week 3

I have actually experimented with dropshipping before, so it's been kind of fun to learn more about it. I have also heard of affiliate links, but more as a way to build revenue streams, and not in the context of using it as an actual business. I'm excited to learn more.  For now I think dropshipping is going to give me the best experience of what it would be like to run an actual business. I would like to pursue that option for my personal project, not just for that reason but also because I have a little experience in it already. To be honest, this is has been a really rough week for me. I have been battling my health and haven't had much time to devote to anything else. I've struggled and fought and I've landed in kind of a bad place. I have very little energy -- my heart feels heavy and broken. I need a break. I need time to breathe. But I just don't have any.  I'm glad we have conference this weekend, because I really need it. I'm worried about mysel...
